Stay Top Of Mind

Do your clients think of YOU when they think about the services you offer?

If not you, then who?

If your email inbox is as clogged as mine, it’s no secret to you that today is the day GDPR becomes official. A day that has changed how the web operates. Forever. For better or worse.

For me, it’s been the highest trafficked month EVER on jeffalytics.com. Why?

Top of Mind.

Earlier this month, I agonized about whether I should even talk about GDPR and the implications on your Google Analytics account.

The lizard part of my brain told me to stay away. It tried to whisper doubt into my mind, “Why would you talk about GDPR, Jeff? If you write about it, you will be wrong. You’ll raise your profile, and the bad people will go after you. You will have a target on your back.” We all know that voice. It’s our greatest enemy. A lack of confidence.

Deep within ourselves is resistance, the lizard brain (or maybe it’s the voice of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool) is talking us out of the things we think we should be doing.

I ignored the Lizard brain and wrote about my GDPR learning process, and guess what happened? This happened.

Jeffalytics has received 50% more traffic in May than any other month in the history of the blog. And there’s still a week left.

Ignoring your lizard brain

You should know by now that being top of mind with your clients is a good thing; but are you willing to take a stand on a big issue, topic, or problem?

Are you willing to be top of mind on important issues that your clients face?

If not you, then who? Perhaps your competitors.

You don’t have to be THE expert on something. You just need to know more than your clients. You just need to be able to solve problems.

You don’t have to listen to the inner voice that tells you not to do something.

Imagine if Elon Musk listened to his inner voice of resistance. There would be no Tesla, SpaceX, or commercially available flamethrowers.

Don’t deprive your clients of your perspective, stance, or opinion on relevant issues that could change their business.

Don’t listen to the inner serpent in your mind. Be bold and take action. You’ll never be 100% prepared for anything. I wasn’t when I started covering GDPR. I absolutely wasn’t ready when I jumped head first into freelancing. Even though I wasn’t certain, I decided to jump head-first into tackling an important issue.

It’s my job to be top of mind with those who follow me. To put forward my best thinking on important issues that can affect my audience. People like you.

As an agency owner, freelancer or consultant, it’s your job to be top of mind for those you serve – your clients.

Everyone is too scared to speak out or too busy to take the initiative and lead a conversation. Yet those that put in the effort and take action are the ones who stay top of mind.

Your clients need you to lead them to maximize the potential of their business.

Take a stand. Inform your clients on an important issue that they are facing. Get in front of your clients and share your expertise. Today! It doesn’t have to be perfect; but it should be swift.

As they say, fortune favors the bold: Because the bold take action.

Stay top of mind.
